Flowers of Scotland - Spring
Willow Catkins

Willow Catkins

Catkin is the name applied to the flower spike of a number of stalkless, unisexual "flowers" found on a number of trees such as birch, hazel and willow. This willow specimen was growing in the grounds of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed "Hill House" in Helensburgh. Mackintosh is of course famous for his designs for Miss Cranston's "Willow" tearooms.
