Tollcross International Rose Trials

Tollcross Park in the east end of Glasgow has been the location of International Rose Trials for over 13 years. New roses are submitted by breeders and growers from all over the world for assessment. An entire hillside in the park is given over to nothing but beds of roses - with hundreds of plants in galaxy of colours, many with perfumes to match.

Also in Tollcross is one of Glasgow's "Winter Gardens" - a building covered in glass. It had lain derelict for over ten years, but refurbishment was completed in November 2000. The building is considerably smaller than the ones at Glasgow Green and Kelvingrove but the gardeners have packed in a large collection of flowering orchids, cacti, poinsettia and other colourful plants.

See also Two Dozen Roses for more illustrations.
