"Colour Supplement"

7 April 2007

(Page 2)

Due to the exceptionally good weather, there is a larger than usual collection of graphics (from Culzean Castle Country Park in Ayrshire) for the Colour Supplement to this week's Rampant Scotland Newsletter. So on this occasion the supplement has been expanded to two pages - there is a link back to the first page after the last picture below.

Regular readers of this section will know that I have a liking for close-up pictures of flowers. A new close-up lens has made that even easier - as this illustration of a rhododendron demonstrates all too clearly!

Bold Robins often sit still, posing for the camera, rather than flying away. This one was perched on the back of a wooden seat in a picnic area - a good vantage point for spotting any crumbs!

Osteospermum make an eye-catching display in any garden, even one as impressive as that at Culzean Castle. Each bloom is about 2" across, though that close-up lens helps to highlight the central "disc floret".

Culzean Castle Country Park maintains a small herd of red deer and this is the dominant stag, with his impressive antlers. Each year the herd produces more than ten deer calves.

The last of the snowdrop flowers are well gone, but the larger bloomed Leucojum or "Snowflake" appear a bit later in the spring.

No we didn't quite stay at Culzean until sunset (which is now nearly 8pm, after the clocks went forward an hour at the end of March). This photo of the beach at the edge of the park was taken looking into the sun - and the camera did the rest!

This is the second page to the Colour Supplement this week. Click here if you want to go back to Page 1
