Castle Stalker

During the efforts of King James IV and V to subdue the MacDonald Lord of the Isles, Duncan Stewart of Appin built Castle Stalker on an island called the Rock of the Cormorants (which was also the battle cry of the Stewarts of Appin).

The Stewarts and the neighbouring Campbells were frequently in dispute but in 1620 the castle was sold to the Campbells but the Stewarts got it back after a long siege in 1685. The clan chief sold the castle in 1765 as the clan system declined after the 1745 Jacobite Uprising.

Although Castle Stalker was abandoned in 1780 and became a ruin, it was bought in the 1960s and restored to its original state.
