The world's largest equine structure, the Kelpies, have been opened in Falkirk.

The 30 metre high structures are made of stainless steel and weigh in at 300 tonnes each. They are part of the £43 million "Helix" project to attract more tourists to the area round the Forth & Clyde Canal in the Falkirk area.

The Kelpies have been designed by Scottish artist Andy Scott.

The launch in April was integrated into the John Muir Festival. Muir, who was born in Scotland, was a renowned naturalist and a moving figure in the establishment of Yosemite National Park in California.
