James Alexander Gordon

The Voice of Classified Results on the Radio is Silenced
James Alexander Gordon died on 18 August at the age of 78

For many years Scots born James Alexander Gordon was the voice of the football results on BBC radio. His gentle burr was well-known as was his unique way of adding drama and emotion to the result. The Scotsman obituary described his style with an example. "Manchester United" was said with an upward slide of the voice before adding "five". Then as if he was whispering a state secret: "Liverpool, nil"

On hearing his son's first broadcast, his father, back in Edinburgh exclaimed: "The wee bugger's finally done it."

He was a radio legend.
