Once they were regarded as either lucky talismen or the epitome of Dickensian child labour never to return, but the business of sweeping chimneys is back.

The resurgence is down to the popularity of wood-burning stoves and Scotland's first solid fuel training centre is booming as a result.



The centre is the brainchild of Gordon McKinlay who is also the regional officer for the National Association of Chimney Sweeps which has experienced a 700 per cent rise in companies registering as members since 2005.
