Happy End to Orkney Drama

Sands of Wright, Orkney © Stephen McKay

Paul Higson had that horrible sinking feeling when he realised that he had lost his wedding ring. It took him two months to pluck up the courage to own up to his wife Jan.

Although the ring could have been lost anywhere on mainland Orkney, there has been a happy ending to this tale.

The couple had been out walking their own dogs on the Sands of Wright, when, in Mrs Higson's words,:

"I stood there with the two dogs and just looked down and saw something metallic in the stones. I originally thought it was a washer or something like that but I bent down and moved one of the stones because it was wedged, and pulled it out and it was Paul's wedding ring."
