Harvey Nichols Department Store

The Harvey Nichols store in Edinburgh opened in August 2002. The 95,000sq ft of retail space replaced a run-down bus station on the east side of the capital's St Andrew Square which is more used to banks and insurance companies than retailers. At the side of Harvey Nichols is Multrees Walk, an upscale pedestrian shopping area selling luxury goods including clothing, stationery and handbags. Multrees Walk was the first new street in central Edinburgh for over 100 year and it links St Andrew Square and the St James' Shopping Mall.

The £50 million Harvey Nichols department store in Edinburgh was the Knightsbridge, London store's first branch in Scotland and its fourth outlet in Britain. The up-market store offers jeans at £950, Dior bikinis, Madonna's favourite face cream and Carrie's latest horse's-head handbag from Sex and the City. The store is said to create what is being called the "Golden Triangle" of Harvey Nichols, Jenners on Princes Street and John Lewis in the St James Centre. It remains to be seen whether that will rival the longer established "Golden Z" of Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street and Argyll Street.
