Castle Menzies

The original Castle Menzies was a 16th century tower house which has been extended. It was built by the Menzies family after their original castle at Comrie was burnt to the ground in 1487 and the Place of Weem was replaced.

Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed in the castle in 1746 but the stronghold was later taken over by Hanoverian forces.

The castle is presently being restored by the Castle Menzies Society and they have done a great job in refurbishing the fabric of the building and displaying many historical artefeacts and paintings, making a visit there very worthwhile.
