The Scottish Snippets Newsletter in its original format began in April 1997 and continued in an unbroken series for 591 issues. Although no longer produced in that style, there is now this regular update on the new and updated pages on the Rampant Scotland site including "Scottie's Photo Diary From Scotland" and Tam's Tall Tales.

News and Views

This is the next edition of "News and Views by the new writer on Rampant Scotland - David. He is continuing to write about a wide variety of news items relating to Scotland that he finds of particular interest, especially developments in arts, crafts and high quality products and services delivered by people with drive and passion. He is not averse to a certain amount of "quirkiness" though, so although he may deal with more serious subjects, his wry humour is bound to come to the surface too..

This edition includes items on:

  • Queensferry Crossing Moving Closer to Completion
    Recent reports, however, show that all three of the towers and decks for the new bridge across the river Forth have been lifted into place closing the remaining gap of about 50 metres.
  • Yet More Success for the Murray Brothers
    How much better can it get for the Murray family? Andy, the Wimbledon champion, gets his place in the sun as the world's number one.
  • Buchan Observer's View on The Donald
    The Buchan Observer touched a nerve with its headline about Donald Trump's election as next US President.
  • Airbus Touch and Go at Stornoway
    Recently the small airport at Stornoway on Lewis hosted a huge long-range Airbus A350 which can carry up to 400 passengers and is similar in size to a Boeing 777.
  • Homer Simpson Philosophy Class from Glasgow University
    A one-day course is to take moments from The Simpsons TV cartoon series and relate them to philosophical questions around morality, religion and free will and will examine whether Homer Simpson is a "virtuous" character.
  • Monarch of the Glen Painting Deal
    Drinks giant Diageo, owners of the iconic picture "Stag at Bay" has agreed to gift £4 million to the National Gallery of Scotland and the hope is that the gallery can raise a further £4 million to keep the picture in Scotland.

Next Newsletter
The next newsletter is scheduled for three weeks from now on 10 December and will be a mixture of various items, including Scottie's Photo Diary and other new pages added to Rampant Scotland.
