- Edinburgh-Glasgow Trains - Watch out for Delays

Rail Tunnel Closure Delays Edinburgh - Glasgow Rail Services.

The long overdue electrification of train services between Scotland's two largest cities has resulted in a tunnel on the line being closed for more than four weeks. This is causing delays to the regular service between Glasgow Queen Street (pictured on the left and Edinburgh Waverley (pictured on the right and at the top of the page). Despite plenty of advance warning there wewre long delays to passengers particularly at Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street

There are alternative routes to Glasgow Central but this involves a meandering detour and frequent stops along the way.

The M8 motorway between the two cities has become even busier than usual as some travellers take their cars rather than be subjected to the problems on the rail service.

Of course, ScotRail (now controlled by by Abellio, a subsidiary company of Nederlandse Spoorwegen, which has been running the ScotRail franchise since 1 April 2015) offers "jam tomorrow" with the prospect of smooth electric trains on the rail link - scheduled for the end of 2017. The graphic below shows the new train in Scotrail livery.

There is more information on the disruoted rail timetable see Scotrail - Winchburgh .
