Traditional Scottish Songs
- The Tartan Army

Although some of Scotland's individual football (soccer) teams have been successful in winning some European trophies over the years, the international team has not exactly been crowned with success. Nevertheless, they have a vociferous following of supporters - named affectionately as the "Tartan Army" since roughly the 1970s. Even if Scotland has not won any trophies on the football field, the TA has won over the hearts of many foreign towns and cities (the exception is probably London) with their boisterous good humour, bawdy songs and the consumption of copious quantities of alcohol (both Scottish whisky and local beer) which has given a tremendous boost to many a local economy. The affection which Scots fans generate abroad has resulted (it is said) in some English fans in Europe wearing kilts and "Hey Jimmy" bunnets in order to be more acceptable to the locals.

There are various renditions of songs associated with the Tartan Army - here is one of them.

The Tartan Army

Here we come...
Stottin' down the street...
We get the funniest looks
From everyone we meet.

Hey, hey, we're the Tartan Army
And people say we fanny around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

We're just trying to be friendly;
We like to sing and play.
We're the famous Tartan Army
And we've got something to say.

Hey, hey, we're the Tartan Army
And people say we fanny around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

Meaning of unusual words:
Stottin'=stagger, totter
fanny around=mess around
