Queen Anne was the daughter of King James VII. She came to the throne in 1702 after the death of her sister Queen Mary. When Queen Anne died in 1714, the Westminster Parliament voted (by a majority of one) to offer the crown to George I, elector of Hanover, thus commencing the House of Hanover. His mother was Sophia, grand-daughter of King James VI.
