Festival Fringe Reviews
- David Benson - Star Struck
- Rating ****
A Brilliantly Devised Show
Suave, smooth and seductive, Benson tap dances onto the stage, Putting on the Ritz, Fred Astaire style. Then he begins his story of a star struck childhood and teenage years, dreaming of flying over the rainbow with Judy Garland, dancing with Astaire, singing with Sinatra and sipping cocktails with Noel Coward. These were the people he wished to be. Forever inspired by their glamour, stage presence and charisma, if only he could meet them to show his appreciation? As actor, singer, comedian, raconteur and mimic, Benson creates a fantasy party to which all his heroes are invited. Conversation and drink is strong and freeflowing as they are all brought colourfully to life through his unique talent for mime, mannerism and impeccable impersonation.
With minimal musical accompaniment and props we are taken on a journey beyond the glitz of showbiz to investigate the secret truths, pleasure and pain of celebrity life. Directed by fellow performer, David Sant of Peepolykus fame, this is an hour of hilarious, moving and utterly magical entertainment.

This year he's back in town with a brilliantly devised show about celebrity performers.
