A number of BBC and ITV programmes on various subjects have been uploaded to YouTube (for educational purposes) and thus are available to be viewed around the world.

This page lists the commercial programmes to be found on YouTube which illustrate Scottish Castles. Note, however, that it appears that the videos will not play on mobile phones or tablets and they cannot be saved on your PC using normal software.

  • Castles of Scotland Series 01, Episode 01 - Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle and Glamis Castle are just some of the castles featured in this episode of Castles of Scotland. Plus highlights of some of the magnificent buildings which will be featured in the rest of the series (25 minutes)
  • Castles Of Scotland : Series 01 - Episode 02 Eilean Donan Castle, surrounded by three Lochs and facing Skye plus more on Edinburgh Castle home of the Scottish Crown Jewels and one of most important historic buildings in Scotland. This programme looks at how these defensive structures served the clans and families that lived there and how they have changed over the years. (23 minutes)
  • Castles Of Scotland : Series 01 - Episode 03 Castle Levan by Loch Long and the River Clyde with its magnificent stained-glass windows and painted ceilings influenced by Italian and French fashions of the time. The turrets and towers of Glamis Castle, made famous in Shakespeare's Macbeth, are also visited and glimpse its rich interiors from the dinning room and the crypt to the Queen Mother's childhood bedroom.
  • Castles Of Scotland : Series 01 - Episode 04 Focuses on the outstanding artillery fortifications in Fort George near Inverness and the remains of Caerlaverock Castle in the Scottish borders.
  • Castles Of Scotland : Series 01 - Episode 05 Fyvie Castle, one of the finest examples of Scottish Baronial architecture with magnificent interiors and period details including many ornate tapestries and paintings by Sir Henry Raeburn. Also Castle Fraser, near the River Don, one of the grandest of the Scottish tower houses built in granite with all the classic details of Baronial architecture.
  • Castles Of Scotland : Series 01 - Episode 06 Kinloch Castle, on the Isle of Rum, which was built by wealthy playboy George Bulloch from specially chartered red sandstorm from Arran and filled with opulent interiors and gifts from as far as Japan. Also Ayrshire's coastal castle, Culzean, with its beautiful views of the Firth of Clyde and ornamental stonework.
